About the artist:
Sônia Menna Barreto was born in São Paulo and in the 1980s began attending the studio of artist Luiz Portinar. She learned about the artistic life and movements, heard many stories told by Portinari and spent time with great painters, writers and poets of the time. After coming into contact with the works of Max Ernst, De Chirico, Magritte and Paul Delvaux, Sônia's work took the direction of Surrealism. Her technique originated in the Flemish painters of the 15th century, mixing hyper-realism with the details of the French Trompe L'oeil technique. Her works are present in private collections in Brazil and other countries and in 2002, for the first time, a Brazilian work became part of the ROYAL COLLECTION, belonging to the British Royal Family, one of the most important art collections in the world.
