About the artist:
Sônia Menna Barreto was born in São Paulo and in the 1980s began attending the studio of the artist Luiz Portinar. She became acquainted with the artistic life, the movements, heard many stories told by Portinari, and mingled with great painters, writers, and poets of the time. After coming into contact with the works of Max Ernst, De Chirico, Magritte, and Paul Delvaux, Sônia's work took the direction of Surrealism. Her technique originates from the Flemish painters of the 15th century, mixing hyper-realism with the intricacies of the French technique of Trompe L’oeil. Her works are present in private collections in Brazil and other countries, and in 2002 for the first time a Brazilian work became part of the ROYAL COLLECTION, belonging to the British Royal Family, one of the most important art collections in the world.
